Should the apocalypse happen tomorrow...

...here's a playlist to provide some motivation for a deeply distressed psyche should said circumstances arise:

  • The Obvious Ones: Muse's "Apocalypse Please" and Imagine Dragons "Radioactive" give the blatant obvious -
    • "This is the end of the world" and "This is it, the apocalypse."
  • Because Muse has a serious fascination:  "Exo-Politics," "Knights of Cydonia," "Butterflies and Hurricanes," "Map of the Problematique," "Uprising," "Resistance," "United States of Eurasia," "Big Freeze," you know, just to name a few. Lyrics include
    • "Fear and panic in the air," "Wars and fights have begun," and "When the Zetas fill the skies" I'm not entirely sure what Zetas are, but it sounds end-of-the-world esque.
  • Inspired by film: Lorde's "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" is spine-tingling. "Shooting Arrows at the Sky," "We Remain," "Mirrors" and "Elastic Heart" come from the Catching Fire soundtrack and they are spot on.
  • For the Romantic: Lana Del Rey's "Born to Die,"  Muse's "Starlight" and "Follow Me" - for that "star-crossed lover." ;)
  • After you've survived off of bark, or something, for a few weeks: The Black Keys' "Howlin for You" and Of Monsters and Men's "Dirty Paws" are good for the wild survivor, but Walk the Moon's "Big Bad Wolves" gets the cake with lyrics -
    • "when you find it , You gotta fight for it harder than anything, And when you get yours hold on tight to it faster than anything."
I am astounded at how many songs are about the end of the world because there were many others I could add to this list. The world is a tad-bit fascinated with post-apocalyptic societies. But this playlist also excellent for evening runs...or, you know, laser tag.

Follow-Up: Per request, here is the Spotify playlist to listen for yourself.

Unfortunately, "Big Bad Wolves" and "Some kind of Monster" aren't available on Spotify so just click below.

Please just excuse the Spanish subtitles. Keeping it classy you know.
